There is a huge range of activities that we do, both at our squadron headquarters and elsewhere. Some are aviation related, others sporting or adventure training or shooting. There's so much choice and variety that we can't list them all. Most of them are described elsewhere on the site, but this page has photos of some of our favourite activities.

Among the aviation activities is flying, whether in training aircraft, gliders or in RAF and other military aircraft. We also have a flight simulator, based on a Boeing 737-800, which is used every week for flying training. All these activities mean that what you'll learn about aircraft and how they operate can then going to be put into practice, whether on a real aircraft or a simulator.

One of the most popular activities in the ATC is adventure training. This can cover a huge range of activities, including canoeing, climbing, mountain biking or sailing, but the most frequent events are hiking expeditions, which can be part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and camps that offer a range of activities during a week or a weekend.

Back on the ground, there's even more to do. As a squadron we are particularly strong on target shooting, which is a challenging, skilled activity for which you'll receive extensive training to enable you to reach a good standard and maintain our very high safety standards. Initially you'll be trained on the air rifle, fired on our 10 metre range, then go on to fire the No. 8 smallbore service rifle on our 25 metre range. Skilled shots on the service rifle also have the chance to be trained on and fire our smallbore target rifles, the L98A2 cadet general purpose rifle and the L81 fullbore target rifle. Our squadron regularly competes at Corps and national level

Fieldcraft is also a very popular ATC activity, which involves training in camouflage, teamwork, navigation and leadership. This training is then put to the test duing weekend exercises, trying to complete challenging tasks that need planning, skill and determination. Weekend exercises are excellent fun as well as great experiences.

There are many, many more activities which cadets in the ATC have the opportunity to get involved in. High profile, formal parades, such as at the Cenotaph in London. Camps at military bases, both at home and overseas, with the RAF, Army and Navy. Training courses in flying, gliding, leadership and first aid. Sports and athletics competitions. Visits to air shows, flying displays, museums and military bases.
